Profiles make a repeatable board style. Preferences control the application. Backups preserve your personal library and configuration. These are separate from saving the actual PCB in KiCad.
Save a style from the editor
- Choose a tool and finish a useful example: font, physical size, container, padding and relevant tool controls.
- Use Save… in the profile bar.
- Give the profile a descriptive name such as
Front silk — small outline. - If you recalled an existing profile, follow the prompt to save a new profile or deliberately overwrite it.
- Change a setting, choose Load…, select the saved profile and apply it to confirm the settings return.
A profile is scoped to a module: Label, Header overlay, Component callout, Component array, or QR code/barcode. Loading a style does not update every placed footprint on the board.
Choose a default for new artwork
- Open Settings → Profiles and defaults.
- Choose the Module.
- Select a saved profile and choose Set default.
- To return to the application's initial settings for that module, choose Clear default.
- Close Settings and create a fresh item to check the result.
The default is a starting point for new artwork. Existing items reopen using their embedded saved settings. A selected recalled profile and a default profile are different things: recalling it changes the current form; setting it as default affects future new artwork.
Use Delete only when you no longer need the profile. Deleting a profile is not a command to remove placed artwork. Back up the library before a large cleanup.
General preferences
Appearance offers Follow system, Light and Dark. Apply changes with Save settings, then reopen the editor for a consistent theme.
Measurement display switches between millimetres and mils while preserving internal physical dimensions. One mil is 0.0254 mm. Check the field's displayed unit after switching; do not manually convert a value a second time if the interface already did it.
Back up or move your personal library
- Open Settings → Data & backup → Backup & reset.
- Note the data location displayed by your own installation. The screenshot uses an isolated documentation directory; your path will differ.
- Choose Create data backup… and save the archive with a date and useful version context.
- Keep the archive outside the installed plugin directory, ideally alongside your other project backups.
- To move machines, install the appropriate Kobee Studio release first, back up any existing destination data, then use Restore data backup… there.
- Reopen the editor and verify a custom symbol, quick label, profile and default.
The personal backup includes custom SVGs, quick labels, profiles, preferences and hidden-item choices. Restore replaces the current personal data after confirmation; it is not a merge. Export the destination setup before restoring if it contains anything you need.
Project-only assets live with project-side Kobee data and need their own project backup. A personal archive is not a replacement for saving the .kicad_pcb, related KiCad files and project assets.
Reset to shipped defaults
Reset data to shipped defaults… removes custom SVGs, quick labels, profiles, preferences and hidden-item choices. The shipped library remains. This action cannot be undone through the editor.
Create and verify a backup first. Resetting data is not the normal way to fix an installation issue, missing toolbar button or an invalid SVG. Try the focused steps in troubleshooting first.
Team workflow example
Agree on a small set of label sizes and appearances, save one profile per common tool, and keep project-specific symbols with the board. Before handing a project to another person, provide the board, project-side data, source SVGs and the relevant personal backup where appropriate. Have them reopen a representative artwork item before relying on the setup for production.
