The 1.5 Asset library holds reusable icons, graphic assets, variants and quick labels. Store reusable personal material in My library, or keep board-specific material in This project. Fonts and imported graphics explains font activation, standalone artwork and PNG tracing.
Pick a bundled symbol
In Labels → Standard, choose Label + symbol or Symbol only, then open the symbol picker. Search by a name or browse categories. Select a variant when one is available, then tune symbol height and its gap from text.
Symbols are geometry, not electrical schematic symbols. Adding a ground icon does not assign a net or create a pad connection.
Personal library or project scope?
- My library — Use it when: You reuse a mark across several projects on this machine; What to keep: A personal data backup and original SVGs
- This project — Use it when: The mark belongs with a specific board or team project; What to keep: The project-side Kobee data alongside the board
Save the board before using project-only uploads. Without a saved board path, This project is unavailable. A personal data backup and a project backup serve different purposes; keep both when your work uses both scopes.
Prepare an SVG for PCB artwork
The 1.5 importer supports common paths/shapes, nested transforms, fills, strokes and supported fill rules. Keep the source simple and convert live text to paths. Scripts, external links/images, embedded raster data, masks, filters and unsupported effects cannot become ordinary PCB geometry. Filled paths remain a useful compatibility target if the same SVG must work in 1.4.1.
For a predictable workflow in Inkscape:
- Start with a 240 × 240 px page; this is a recommended design canvas, not a mandatory PCB size.
- Keep the visible design roughly within the 20–220 px region so it has breathing room.
- Draw with one solid fill. PCB output uses geometry rather than the source colour.
- Convert objects to paths and use Stroke to Path on visible outlines.
- Use a geometric difference and an evenodd fill rule for holes such as a ring's centre.
- Save as Plain SVG.
- Import and inspect at the smallest physical height you intend to use.
SVG pixels are not PCB millimetres. A 28 px-wide feature in a 200 px-high symbol becomes about 0.17 mm wide at a 1.2 mm symbol height. Simplify or thicken the artwork if this is too fine for the intended process.
Upload a symbol
- Open Settings → Asset library → Icons & graphics.
- Choose Scope → My library or This project.
- Set Type → Icons for a symbol used with text, or Graphics for standalone artwork.
- Choose Upload SVG… and select your prepared file.
- Give the asset a recognizable display name and complete the upload prompts.
- Save/close Settings and open the symbol picker in the editor.
- Find the new asset, place a test instance and reopen it to check editability.
Choose Graphics for a reusable standalone asset. Place it through Graphics → Imported Graphic. Convert PNG… creates geometry from a bitmap; see the trace and transform instructions. A one-off file imported directly in the graphics editor is separate from adding a reusable library asset.
Add variants to a symbol family
Select an uploaded symbol family and choose Add variant…. Choose the alternate SVG and supply its variant details. default and rounded are useful conventional names.
Keep variants on the same canvas, centred similarly and with comparable visual bounds. Switching from default to rounded should not unexpectedly change the apparent size or move the icon relative to the text. Variants belong to one symbol family; a completely different icon should usually be a separate asset.
Make your own quick labels
- Open Settings → Asset library → Quick labels.
- Choose Save in → My library or This project.
- Choose Add quick label….
- Enter the text and category; choose an optional symbol and variant.
- Save it and return to the editor's Quick label picker.
- Select your entry and refine the current artwork as needed.
Use Edit selected… to change a custom entry. Bundled quick labels remain protected. A quick label stores reusable content; use a profile for typography, padding and the rest of a tool's style.
Hide bundled items without deleting them
Use the library/picker's scope, type, category and search controls to narrow what you see. Bundled material and custom entries have different edit/delete permissions. Do not delete a custom source just to reduce a picker's results. If a familiar item is missing after an update, first clear filters and check My library versus This project, then confirm the board is saved.
Delete and recover custom assets
Delete selected removes the selected custom asset/variant after confirmation. Existing placed geometry stays on the board, but future regeneration can depend on retaining the source asset, font and matching project data. Keep original SVGs and a backup before deleting assets used by existing boards.
If an item disappears, check scope, asset type, visibility and whether the current board was saved. Restore the correct library/project data rather than replacing all app data as a first troubleshooting step.
Contributors who want to add bundled symbols can follow the repository's custom symbol authoring guide.
