Kobee Studio: settings reference

A practical reference for content, geometry, physical measurements, code sizing and application settings in the 1.5 editor.

Kobee Studio user manual

This reference explains the settings used by the 1.5 tools. Controls appear only where they apply to the current mode, shape or layout. Displayed measurements follow your selected mm/mil preference; the examples below use millimetres.

Content and symbols

  • Make — Chooses Label, Label + symbol or Symbol only
  • Label text / Labels (one per line) — The text content; header/array lines correspond to repeated positions
  • Quick label — Starts from reusable text and optional symbol content
  • Text layout — Single text or Title + subtitle
  • Subtitle — Supporting text beneath the main title
  • Symbol — Selected library asset and variant
  • Symbol position — Left or right of text in the combined label tool
  • Symbol size — Physical icon height; 0 means automatic relative to text height
  • Symbol gap — Separation from the lettering, distinct from container padding

A symbol is hidden when the selected content mode does not use it. Switching to Symbol only can remove text-related controls from view without deleting the library asset.

Container geometry

ControlEffect and useful check
ShapeOverall enclosure form; available dependent controls can change
AppearanceFilled/inverted, outline or other available rendering treatment
Corner radiusRoundness of compatible corners
Outline widthBorder thickness in outline-style artwork
Feature sizeSize of shape-specific features such as notches or points; it is not a universal fabrication limit
DirectionOrientation of directional enclosure details
End treatmentMatched ends or independent edge treatments
Left/right edgeIndividual end styles for ordinary labels
Independent long edgesPin-side and label-side corner treatment on header enclosures
Top/bottom/left/right paddingSpace between the content and its container

A shape can be constrained by its content and minimum geometry. Inspect the actual preview after changing a radius, border or asymmetric end rather than treating a field as an isolated visual promise.

Typography

ControlMeaning
TypefaceFont used for the generated lettering
Alignment / minimum widthAlign text within the available region; minimum width sets a lower bound rather than scaling letters
Main text heightPhysical lettering size; the container is larger once padding is included
Line spacingSpacing between lines of main text
Subtitle height / gapSupporting-line size and separation from the main title
Subtitle typefaceFollows the main face by default; an override is available in advanced controls
Underline main textGenerates an underline as real board geometry
Underline thickness / gapStroke width and distance below the lettering

Text appearance depends on glyph proportions and stroke weight as well as height. Check special characters and counters at the smallest planned output size.

In 1.5, Advanced contains independent underline/overline thickness and gap controls, plus opt-in Text formatting. Typography → Placement anchor selects one of nine reference points. See formatting and anchor examples.

Header overlays

Control groupMeaning
Pin count and label linesNumber of positions and text assigned to them
OrientationHorizontal or vertical arrangement
Pins on / Pin 1 endRelationship between the text, pin row and first position
Pin 1 markerOptional additional orientation cue
Connector spacingHardware region, text offset and outer padding
Opening styleNone, continuous plug opening or individual pin openings
Opening width / end paddingPhysical removed area around connector/pins
Leading/trailing paddingExtension at the first and last positions

Choose a standard pitch or Custom in 1.5; the older 1.4 tool used fixed 2.54 mm pitch. Text height must fit the pitch. For details and order checks, use Connector overlays.

Component tools

Control groupMeaning
PresetA starting body envelope for a common component
Width / heightPhysical body envelope dimensions
ClearanceSpace added around the envelope
Cutout shape / radiusGeometry reserved for the component region
Label position / text gapSide and separation of text from the component
Array countNumber of repeated callouts
Array orientationRow or column arrangement
Array pitchCentre-to-centre component spacing

Choosing a preset does not validate it against your exact part. See callouts and arrays.

Machine codes

ControlMeaning
PayloadActual encoded data
Module sizeWidth of one QR square or the base narrow barcode element
PresentationPlain QR, rounded frame, or frame with footer
Extra frame gapDecoration spacing in addition to the protected QR quiet zone
Footer text / heightShort instruction in the QR frame; does not alter payload
Bar heightPhysical height of Code 128 bars
Show text below codeEnables independent human-readable artwork
Readable text / height / gapCaption content, size and spacing beneath the code

The QR default module size is 0.35 mm. Code 128 defaults are 0.25 mm modules and 4.0 mm bars, with guarded minimums of 0.20 mm and 3.0 mm. Always check scan and fabrication requirements.

Layers and preview

Place artwork on selects the generated layer set. Preview layer selects the viewed target within that set. Fit, + and − change view framing, not physical output dimensions. At least one target layer is required. Read layers and fabrication before choosing copper or mask.
